About this cottage

🏡 THE HOME

33285 Butternut Ct, Lewes, DE 19958

Our place is a classic A-frame in Angola by the Bay, a quiet, gated bayside community on Herring Creek in Lewes. Under the A-frame's peak, the living room sits at the front beneath a vaulted ceiling, with the kitchen behind it and two bedrooms toward the back; a loft overhead adds the third sleeping space. Along the right side, a bright sunroom with its own entrance holds the indoor dining table and a second, sun-filled sitting area. Two sliding glass doors open to the front — one from the living room, one from the sunroom. It's updated throughout and set on a quiet cul-de-sac with no through traffic, and it suits four comfortably: a couple, a small family, or a few friends.

🌊 ANGOLA BY THE BAY

Angola by the Bay is a quiet, gated community of hundreds of homes spread across roughly 300 wooded acres on Herring Creek, just off Rehoboth Bay. It's residential and calm — winding lanes, tall trees, and a real bay-and-creek setting rather than a strip of rentals. Within the gates there's a saltwater pool, sports courts, walking and biking trails, a marina, and crabbing docks, so there's plenty to do without leaving. The water here is calm and bay-fed — better for kayaking, crabbing, and watching the boats than for surf (a Delaware fishing/crabbing license is required for ages 16–64).

🏖️ THE DELAWARE BEACHES

The ocean beaches are a short drive, with several to choose from — each with its own personality:
★ Rehoboth Beach — the classic boardwalk town: a mile of shops, restaurants, arcades, and Funland, plus a wide, well-kept beach. Lively without being overwhelming. About 10 miles / 20 minutes.
★ Lewes — historic and laid-back, with a walkable downtown of independent shops and good restaurants; Cape Henlopen State Park is on its doorstep, and the Cape May–Lewes Ferry departs from here. About 10 miles / 18 minutes.
★ Cape Henlopen State Park — undeveloped, natural coastline with a swimming beach, fishing pier, trails, and WWII watchtowers. About 14 miles / 25 minutes.
★ Dewey Beach — the lively one: smaller and younger, known for its bar and beach scene. About 10 miles / 18 minutes.
Farther afield, quieter Bethany Beach, the state-park beach at Fenwick Island, and the calm bay beach at Broadkill are all easy day trips (about 30–38 minutes).

🌿 BEYOND THE BEACH

Cape Henlopen State Park alone is worth a half-day — dunes, trails, the fishing pier, and the historic watchtowers. Historic Lewes predates the country and rewards an afternoon of wandering. There's tax-free outlet shopping at the Tanger Outlets, golf nearby at Baywood Greens, and family stops like Hopkins Farm Creamery for ice cream.

🍽️ DINING & SHOPPING

You're a few minutes from the Shoppes at Long Neck (Grotto Pizza, Yellowfins, Brickworks Brewing) and a short drive from the restaurants and breweries around Lewes and Rehoboth. Grocery stores — Giant, Weis, Harris Teeter — are about 5 miles out, worth a stop on your way in.

✦ THE BIGGER PICTURE

Angola by the Bay draws a wider range of travelers than you might expect — not only the regional drive market, but guests from across the country who come for the A-frame and discover the Delaware shore along the way. It suits people who want the beach without living on the boardwalk: quiet and wooded, with the sand a short drive away and a pool and trails right outside the door.

🚗 A CAR IS RECOMMENDED

This is a quiet stretch of coastal Delaware with little public transportation, so a car is the practical way to reach the beaches, towns, and restaurants — all a short drive away. Plan to arrive with groceries for the first day; the nearest stores (Giant, Weis, Harris Teeter) are about 5 miles out and easy to hit on the way in.

🚴 WITHIN THE COMMUNITY

Inside the gates the pace slows — quiet, low-traffic lanes that are easy for walking and biking (bring bikes if you have them), plus wooded trails and the pool, courts, and marina all within the community.

🏖️ GETTING TO THE BEACHES

The ocean beaches are about 18–25 minutes by car. The town beaches (Rehoboth, Lewes, Dewey) are free, with metered or seasonal paid parking that fills in peak season — arrive early. Cape Henlopen State Park charges a per-car entrance fee in season, and its lots can fill by mid-morning on summer weekends, so before 10am is the safe bet.

🛳️ BY WATER

The Cape May–Lewes Ferry connects Lewes to Cape May, New Jersey — a scenic crossing worth building into a trip; reservations are recommended in season.

🚪 GATED ENTRY

The community is gated. We send step-by-step entry instructions before arrival, so you can drive straight in.

Thank you for choosing our home. Please read the house rules below carefully; they help us protect the space, follow community policies, and ensure a comfortable stay for everyone. 🛏️ LINENS, TOWELS, & HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES

★ We also provide paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, dish soap, laundry soap, and trash bags.

🗑️ TRASH DAY

★ Community trash pickup is on Tuesdays, and the totes go out Monday night. If your stay includes Monday night, please wheel the totes to the curb; if you're here Tuesday, please bring them back in after pickup. Otherwise, please keep them in the driveway next to the house. We appreciate your help keeping our community looking its best.

After booking, we'll ask you for the email address where you'd like us to send these to; please respond promptly as the community requires advance registration. You will need to provide personal information such as email address, phone number, and vehicle registration. These requirements are disclosed in advance so that guests are aware before booking.
